One hates to breathe a sigh of relief at the misery of others, but most Baton Rouge residents are very, very relieved we only caught the edge of Ike. Of course, it was so powerful that there were still 40 mph to 50 mph wind gusts in the Baton Rouge area, which did cause a bit of additional damage. Still, that didn't set us back from Gustav too much, though the southwest of Louisiana may not be able to say that. Looks like Houston got hit hard this time.
Some people in BR still don't have their power back from Gustav, as it is. I'm sure a few lost their power again thanks to these minor effects from Ike. I actually didn't loose power again, though I did loose my Internet connection through cable for about 24 hours and finally got it back this afternoon. Basically, this one didn't cause me any grief at all. Just a lot of exciting wind.
Well, this is probably my last hurricane commentary (at least, for this year). I figure life won't feel completely back to normal 'til October, but at least the likelihood of another major hurricane is lessened for this season.
Wish us peace, especially as regards the weather. ;-)
