Marc "Dr. Doom" Faber is a well respected market analyst. He seems to think that government aid will have the intended effect and things will start rebounding within a few months. Here's the kicker, though: if the government aid doesn't have the intended effect, he figures we'll see something that makes the Great Depression look preferable!!! Well . . . That strikes me as incredibly honest.
In the meantime, both the BBC and NPR are talking about the end of US dominance in the world. I do think that would be the result of an extended Depression, but will most likely happen more slowly if things don't go that bad . . . Still, no thing at all lasts for ever. Nothing at all.

Marc Faber is credited with saying the following in June 2008:
"The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China. If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer/Software it will go to India. If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in US. I've been doing my part."

Faber didn't mention food. The U.S. does produce quite a bit of food (I'm told that it's the largest exporter). So, eat, drink, and feel Mary...
Seriously though, I have to wonder if the availability of resale items, like on Ebay and Amazon, have been contributing to the reported decline in sales.
Well I heard on the tv today that sales on Ebay have decline. That's really surprising!
